• FlyCom helmet squeal

Posted by Ed Haas on March 9, 2025 at 2:41 pm

Bought a new FlyCom helmet for my other trike. When I key up my mike there is a loud squeal. Not the radio. My other FlyCom helmet works perfectly with this radio. Any ideas what might be the cause? Is there someone in the US who services FkyCom equipment. Thanks

Sounds like a feedback loop. Try just the new helmet and see if the mic volume needs to be turned down.

mine did that and someone suggested I needed a remote antenna and that fixed mine. similar squeal on another set up and it was the ptt set up had changed so I needed to turn the side tone off and that was a fix for that one.

Thanks Ted. What is the “side tone” you turned off? Are you talking the volume knob on the side of the helmet?

Side tone is a radio setting. It’s stops your voice from coming through the speakers when you talk. This stops “feedback” since the mic picking up the sound of what it is picking up. This is a real fix, but a band aid fix. And you can’t hear yourself at all… but you hear everyone else.

Flycom’s seems to have gotten a bad batch of mics in their helmets that seem to be too sensitive. I have been swapping them out with perfect results after… not sure if mic volume can be lowered or filtered. I can replace the mic if you send me the helmet. Could be worth a try.
