• Interested and Researching

I’m in the research phase. All of my flying has been in fixed wing aircraft (GA and military) but I have limited knowledge of WSC. I’ve always had an interest in gyroplanes and trikes and even considered purchasing a trike about 5 yrs ago. Ended up buying another fixed wing instead, but never stopped being fascinated with trikes. I live in an airpark community and my neighbor has 2 trikes. We’ve talked, he loves them, and I’m again interested in this type of flying. I’m looking for something with quick-folding wings and small enough to fit in a corner of my hangar. The Rev line looks perfect. Some questions:

-Anyone who bought a Rev regret not getting a RevX?
-When in trailering configuration, do the wings of a Rev/RevX need to be supported from the walls or ceiling of your trailer?
-Any engine issues with the Polini 303 or Rotax 582?
-My current insurance carrier won’t touch trikes. Who does?

Thanks in advance for answering these questions and any additional info you can prov

Good morning Jim, I purchased my Rev in Aug 2022 from the original owner. It has the Polini 250DS which has 36.5 hp at 7500rpm so my range is limited to flying around my local area (50 miles). When flying, it definely flies like an ultralight which is not a bad thing, just a statement. The Rev is definitely weight limited for climb-out. To answer your question about Polini vs rotax: I come from a rotax background and have found it difficult to find information about Polini engines and there is limited parts in the US. Also finding a rotax repair station is a lot easier. I will say, the Polini engine is easy to work on, have changed stator recently. Would do some research on the Polini engine in the paramotor forums, they seem to run a lot of Polini products. Cannot answer the trailering question. No insurance on a non-n numbered aircraft, you might try falcon insurance for n numbered trikes. In summary, I love my trike however I wish I had more fuel capacity for longer legs, but if you just like flying around the patch, is an awesome ride. Hope this helps.

    Fly safe, Stephanie

Stephanie, thank you for your reply. I agree, info on the Polini on a Rev/RevX is limited. After additional online research and considering how I intend to use a trike, I believe I’ll be going with the RevX. The Rotax has a larger support network in the US and there’s a Service Center a few hours from me, should it be needed. Thx again!

Here is what I use to extend my range, I have some times carried 2, spend the extra for the spout with the turn off. https://www.airframesalaska.com/Liquid-Containment-Bag-p/5.2bag.htm

Ted, I have a Giant Loop fuel bladder that I carried on my adventure bike when on extended off-road trips. I plan to carry it on any trike I get just in case. Do you have a Rev or RevX?

Have you been to Evolution Trikes website? Lots of videos there showing how to fold and to trailer the Rev and Rev X. The Rev X is beefier and about twice the horsepower with the 582. Unlike the Rev, it is not Part 103 compliant and therefore must be registered. When folded, wings are self-supporting. When trailering, the ends are supported by straps from the wall or ceiling depending on the size of your trailer. I have towed my Rev X over 1,000 miles without issue. I have mine insured thru the EAA underwritten by Star.
