Anyone have a great solution for hooking up your iPhone to the audio in port to allow in flight calls? Using the iPhone lightning to 3.5mm coiled cable works great for me until I start the engine then I seem to lose the ability to talk (too much noise on the other end). Anyone try the Bluetooth connector option (Bluetooth to 3.5mm) and do it that way?

I play music via my trike’s AUX IN jack with the help of a small custom built mono preamplifier.

However, I believe the FCC bans the use of a cell phone while flying.

I found that my (older) iPad’s headphone audio output or the audio output of a Bluetooth Audio Receiver (BTAR) doesn’t have enough signal level to adequately drive the aux input of my MGL Avionics V6 VHF transceiver (no matter how much I fiddled with the volume control and menu settings). The music was barely audible to begin with and then completely swamped out with wind and engine noises. I picked up a small mono preamplifier module for a few dollars from Amazon and, with some work, connected it between iPad/BTAR and the AUX IN jack to boost the signal. The sound is good, not great. The V6 mutes the music when transmitting and receiving.

Yeah thanks…music works great and so does phone (without engine running). On the FCC thing that was true for 850 but don’t believe so for most of the bands anymore that are used for most calls..they may have changed that 850 stuff too by now. Have a garmin radio in my RV12 – it has built in bluetooth for phone calls – even has caller ID on the screen.

On the suggestion to talk to Larry, I did talk to Larry – he suggested posting the question here.
