• NOOB questions

I am a private glider pilot and will be taking my first trike flight along with an hour of instruction later this month in the ABQ, NM area. Years ago I had a flight in an ultralight and enjoyed that and more recently a Stearman flight which I really enjoyed the open cockpit. Appears to be a lot of good information here. A few questions…

As a glider pilot I can legally fly powered gilders after endorsement without obtaining a powered pilot license. Can this be done with what are considered “soaring trikes”?

If not, what would be required to obtain the light sport license so I could fly two seaters since I already have my private glider license (having a hard time researching a clear answer)?

Bit concerned how well I will handle the difference in controls, especially under stress at first since have been flying conventional stick and rudder.

    Thanks for responses.

I’m a Noob as well but I have had the opportunity to fly Sail planes in the past. The one thing I tell my 3 axis friends is “The controls are different”. Example – On a 3 axis, You pull back on the stick and the aircraft nose will pitch up but on a WSC you pull back on the bar and the nose will go down, so you will need some training.

Hi John, so pretty much any soaring trike will be part 103 which doesn’t require a license at all. And I am not 100% sure if you can add on a WSC rating to a Glider license, but that may be a possibility. I haven’t had the need (yet) so I am not sure. I know many people on here will know and hopefully chime in.

Yes you can add a WSC to glider FAA certificate just like many add WSC with an Airplane FAA pilot certificate. Two CFI’s
