    Hello. I was wondering how the Rev with the Polini THOR 300 would operate out of airports with field elevation of between 5000 and 6000 feet here in the Utah-Idaho area? Also, what is the plan for replacing the 582 on the RevX since the 582 will no longer be in production? Thanks for any answers.

    Hi Monte, unfortunately 5000’ elevation is pushing it unless you weight 150 or under and 6,000 feet in the summer is a deal breaker for the REV ultralight. We have over 5 years worth of Rotax 582s which can reach over 15,000 feet. The REV X would definitely be the choice for your application between the. 2 of them. Many of the much smaller lighter trikes can operate from those elevations on the same 36-38 HP motors such as the ATF or the ANT.

      Thanks for this good information. I searched but just don’t seem to find much info on service ceilings for trikes. My local airport is 5637′ and is surrounded by 6 to 12 thousand foot mountains.

    Paul Hamilton has similar field elevation and mountains. But you don’t need 100 HP. Something like a REV X has similar power to weight ratio.

    Have had a 503 two stroke up to 17,000 MSL. Every trike is different. Depends on power, weight and wing. More power higher. Less weight higher. Larger wing higher. You lose about three percent thrust per thousand feet until thrust equals drag and that is your absolute ceiling. Service ceiling is defined as “the altitude when the climb rate decreases to 100 FPM”. Had an unpowered Hang Glider to 20,000 MSL with no engine.
