In the UK the Sub70kg trike category is really starting to boom. Companies like Fly Light Airports produce very capable light trikes weighing less than 155lbs including fuel. In the UK these lights trikes are starting to get popular at the PPG fields.

Examples of 2 place trikes weighing less than 254lbs are the Sampson trike by La Mouette https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkRh1E10U2I I also believe the Bipiuma Trike is less than 254lbs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8U1yeAQxvl8 The trainer PHG is doable and I would think domestic and other foreign manufacturers could produce these at a reasonable price.

The Vittorazi Cosmos 300 would be a great light weight engine to power one of these PHG trainers (powered Hang Glider).

I really think this could help the struggling trike market here in the US. More instruction equals more trike pilots

There is a tandem exemption for PPG’s on wheels. Other than having two seats it must meet the definition of an Ultralight , <254lbs, 5 gal.,etc. it would be great if we could get the FAA to do an exemption for ultralight trike training, let’s call them “powered hang gliders” or PHG’s. There have been 2 seat trikes made in Europe that weight less than 254lbs that could be used for training people to fly single seat ultralights.

This could really bring some life back into weight-shift flying! It could be easier to become an instructor and trainers would be much less expensive. PHG could be as popular as PPG. We would need an organization to back it. I would love to work on this project.
