• Trailer storage and the trike

Posted by Ron Hogan on June 29, 2022 at 10:01 am

I’ve been storing my trike in an enclosed trailer. It’s been hot as can be here in Nashville, TN. Very very hot inside the trailer and no ventilation. What effects can that take on the wing and trike, not to mention the fuel?

We have been wondering that too how the heat can affect the winds and trike as our friends have their trike in a trailer here in Arizona for the summer.

In my experience heat can cause mylar to delaminate some types better than others I’ve seen a number of Mylar Trike wing LE delaminate, also I’ve had mylar windsurfing sails kept in a hot but dark Florida garage for 4 years completely fall apart – Dacron does not seem to be impacted by heat.

Unless you are using 100LL, I personnally would not use fuel more than 4 weeks old – Though I have seen people start and run there 912s on fuel at least 6 months old!

I used to use swift 94 gas with 2 year shelf like but now it’s well over $8 gal. Been using 90 oct pure gas. Going to have to bite the bullet, come winter to store it!
