  • Evolution Trikes is a American made trike manufacture based in Zephyrhills Florida. As a CFI when I was looking for a USA made trike or even world wide, I was looking for a quality trike that would hold up to the torture that students can sometimes put on a trike. As a machine shop owner for over 30+ years I was looking for Quality, Safety, Fit and finish and a trike that would hold up. After looking at other trikes I decided on the Evolution trike. I have been to the manufacturing facility numerous times and have seen the quality up close and first hand. The quality is Excellent. I was looking for the best trike possible and believe I found it. I can honestly say that after years of using it for flight training I am very pleased with no regrets of my purchase. If you have not looked at any of their trike line up, I would recommend it. I have no ties or special interest in their company just passing on the info. Hope it helps.

Lori, So sorry for your loss! When we loose one of our fellow pilot brothers it is a great tragedy, the whole pilot community feels a loss. We will definitely be praying for all those that were close to him. Words sometimes do little in situations like this but just know you and the family’s will be in many of our daily prayers.

There are days I think I will just go for a quick flight before I go to work. Next thing I know It has been hours+ and I am stopping at another airport to empty my bladder and get fuel to keep flying. This would not be possible in a electric trike. You could Stop and Wait for it to charge like you would for a Prius or volt but do you have that much time? I also do training so it just would not be practical in that sense. I do think there is a place for them. I can see a single seater like maybe convincing Larry to build a Rev or RevX model as a good way to go if your not planning on long distance flying. ( That was a hint Larry) Now If they came out with a quick change battery, like swapping out your Dewalt or Milwaukee battery and you could carry a extra on board, that would be sweet. Right now it is hard for me to think about a electric trike when I love flying my Revo.

  • Josh I also had a great time at Trike Fest. It was also nice meeting you.

A special thanks goes out to Mike Hudetz for putting it on every year. I always enjoy it.

If you are a member of the USUA ( United States Ultralight Association ) (717) 339-0200 You can get insurance with O2 Sports Insurance Inc. (855) 351-0202 You must be a member to get the insurance but a yearly membership is only $40.00 and is worth it. If you are just looking to get hangar or ground insurance it is around $755.00 a year for a REVO I think around $650.00 for lighter trikes. It is based on MTOW. I do believe you can get hull insurance through them as well. Many airports now make you have insurance to hangar you trikes. I hope this helps.

About a year ago while on vacation I received a voice mail on my phone from a man that said he was at my airport with his aircraft. He got my name from someone there that said I was an instructor and he wanted to ask me if I could give him some “pointers” on how to take off and land his ultralight. I see this to often, People think that because it maybe a ultralight or even a trike that it is a toy and you should be able to fly it by just looking at it. “ it can’t be that hard” I called him back right away. It went to his voice mail, I gave him some cautions about rotors from a few of the runways and then cautioned him that “ if you do not have instruction I Highly Highly recommend it !!” About 10 minutes later I called again, this time he answered. He said “ I will no longer be needing your services because I already totaled my aircraft” He took it off and crashed it on his first takeoff! He was very fortunate to walk away. It is cheaper to get instruction than replace an aircraft or worse. I have refused to train a few people because they only wanted “a little instruction because they were just going to fly ultralight”. I told them that I was not going to train them just enough to take off and kill them self and fortunately I didn’t know any other instructor that would. If your reading this and have an aircraft of any kind you still have time for instruction! Please get proper instruction. Your friends and family will be grateful.

It would have to be 2nd trike, longer flight time. low level exploring with some altitude and soaring. but if I could only pick one, low level exploring.
